Book text:
Some nights, I dream I’m with my dad again. I’m happy and relieved in the dream, and when I wake up, that warm feeling lingers for a moment, before I remember he’s gone.
In the waking world, I know not to look for him. But it’s easy to get thrown off by the sound of a voice, a smell, a lookalike in the distance. And as soon as my heart flutters with recognition, it’s aching again.
Moments, and soon, years, will pass. I will get older, yet somehow you will stay the same age. Always closer, always further.
The only way to reach you, perhaps,
is this great collapse.
